
WOF: True Treasure
Pastor, singer, songwriter Donnie McClurkin, recorded the song entitled, “All I Ever Really Wanted Was You.” The writer states that he thought he wanted money and fame, but when he received them they didn’t satisfy him at all. At the end of the journey he recognizes that all he ever wanted could only be found in God. Often times we search the world over - trying to find our true treasure – the thing we value the most, or thing that gives us the most satisfaction, only to live lives of dissatisfaction, when the truest treasure is right before us – in the reality of knowing that everything we have, everything we are and ever hope to be is in God. What a joy!
In the tenth chapter of the book of Mark, in verses 17 – 22 we find the story of a wealthy young man who approaches Jesus Christ with the question: “What shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?” The question sounds like an earnest quest for what might truly satisfy the young man’s deepest desire. However, the young man approached Jesus with a false sense of humility and religiosity. (Read more)
